Gooseberry is the nature's gift to us. It is rich in calcium and vitamins and has many health benefits. It is used in beauty products. Amla hair oil enriches hair growth.
It slows down aging, increases metabolic activity, boosts immunity and a lot more.
Amla has references in Hindu religion and in our history. In Hinduism, we believe that god Vishnu resides in this tree and for whom Ekadashi's are sacred. Athiyaman's Nellikkani to Avvayyar, Aadhi Shankara's Kanakadhara Stotram for offering a gooseberry to him by a woman, when he asked for alms (Biksha).

Curd - 1/2 cup
Salt - as needed
For seasoning
Coconut oil - 1 tsp
Mustard seeds
Red chili - 1
Asafoetida - 2 pinches
Curry leaves
Coriander leaves
Preparation:
Cut gooseberry into small pcs. Discard the seeds.
Grind coconut, gooseberry and green chili with a little water.
Add this paste to curd, add salt and mix well.
In a tadka / tempering pan, splutter mustard seeds in coconut oil, then add asafoetida, red chili and pour this over the pachadi. Add curry leaves and coriander leaves. Nutritious nellikkai pachadi is ready.
We can also make gooseberry pickle, which I shall include in the pickles section.
