Panakam / Panaka, the jaggery lemonade is a traditional offering to Gods, Sri Ram, Hanuman and Ayyappan. Panaka means a sweet liquid in Sanskrit. It is a healthy and refreshing drink.
It is a special offering to God Sri Ram on Ram Navami day. We know Ram Navami is one of the Hindu festivals, celebrated on the birthday of god Sriram and this festival usually falls on March / April of every year. Panakam along with Watery Buttermilk (Neeru Moru) and Lentil salad is offered to Sri Ram on Ram Navami day.
It is a perfect thirst quencher for summer.
Jaggery (powdered) - 1/2 cup
Dried ginger ( powdered) - 1/4 tsp
(Chukku podi)
Water - 2 cups (add a little if needed)

Cardamom - 1 (crushed with skin)
Lemon Juice - 1 teaspoon
Preparation:
Crush dried ginger, cardamom and jaggery. You can even use jaggery powder (Nattu sakkarai).
In a bowl, put all the crushed / powdered ingredients (jaggery, dried ginger and cardamom) and add water. Mix well.
Let jaggery gets completely dissolved in water.
Now filter this preparation using a filter.
Add lemon juice. Mix well.
Panakam is ready.
