Paruppu thogayal - Paruppu thogayal using pasi paruppu

Paruppu thogayal is a rice mix.

South Indians must be familiar with this recipe.

It is usually made with Moong dal (pasi paruppu or split yellow gram). We also prepare this with toor dal.

You can prepare this thogayal in a jiffy time. It is that much simple, but very tasty to go with hot steamed rice.

Here we go with the recipe.

Ingredients:

Moong dal - 4 tsps
Coconut grated - 1/2 a cup
Red chilis - 4 nos
Asafoetida - a generous pinch
Gingelly oil - 2 tsps
Curry leaves - a few
Salt to taste

Preparation:

In a tadka pan, add oil and fry moong dal, red chilis and add asafoetida.

Allow it to cool.

In a mixie, add this along with coconut, salt, and curry leaves and grind coarsely by adding a  little water.

That's it. It goes well with hot steamed rice. While serving, you can add a tsp of gingelly oil to enrich its taste. Sutta appalam and rasam are its best accompaniments.

No need for seasoning.
